5. BON JOVI
Bon Jovi had a typical upbringing and a normal childhood. By the time he reached his teens, though, he became a little rebellious and decided to make some money for himself by dealing marijuana. At the time, he was also starting to play music in clubs, and eventually realized that his music was more important to him than selling drugs.
6. FRANK OCEAN
Few singer-songwriters have Frank Ocean’s reputation. He’s one of the most talented men in the industry, but he admits that he wasn’t always on the up and up. In high school, he dealt drugs “because [he] didn’t know any better,” and he used the money to finance studio time. After Hurricane Katrina, he became motivated to put all his effort into his music.
7. BUSTA RHYMES
Busta Rhymes grew up poor, with a mother who worked very long hours in order to support the family. He decided to do something to help his mother so that she wouldn’t have to work so much. He started selling drugs and committed numerous other crimes as part of his drug dealing. He has since managed to completely turn his life around.
8. MEEK MILL
Meek Mill is one of the few rappers who made it up the charts and yet didn’t stop selling drugs. He was arrested in 2008 for dealing drugs and sentenced to more than a year in prison. He continued selling after his release, was arrested a few more times, and was put on house arrest. Since 2016, he hasn’t been arrested again, and he may have finally stopped dealing.
9. BRANDI BRANDT
Brandi Brandt came to worldwide fame when she appeared as Playmate of the Month in October of 1987. Modeling apparently wasn’t enough for her, and she turned to selling cocaine. But she was running a massive operation trafficking large amounts of cocaine into Australia. She was extradited and sentenced to six years in prison.
10. THE GAME
The Game is a man with a very long rap sheet. He’s sold millions of records, but his past is also riddled with crimes like battery and gang affiliation. He was kicked out of Washington State University for being in possession of drugs. Once he was out of school, he started selling drugs and spending time with gangs.
